Leroy’s Grand Adventure: plant assignment by Nevin

Leroy was planted late. He needed a few weeks to figure out his surroundings, but I’m pretty sure he’s recovering. I don’t quite have his watering schedule figured out, but I will soon. When I bring him home, he will be the first of this year’s indoor/outdoor garden.

I’ve enjoyed having a little living thing to take care of. Just a bit of water, and it’s off. I’m basically watching a tiny piece of nature grow, which is really grounding. Leroy has inspired me to work more on the garden this year. I think I’ll be making a small indoor growbed system in the living room!

Of course, things were not so great at the start (which I am arguably still doing). I didn’t have a consistent watering schedule, and I had no idea how to tell when to water it. I think I’m getting the hang of it now, but I may have to do some research.

I didn’t design the pot at all. I don’t really care about that. The functionality of the pot is not to serve an aesthetic purpose, like a painting or decoration, but to hold a plant. It serves its purpose well without me looking at it. Yeah yeah, bland utilitarian answer, but I don’t stare at the pot anyway. All the important meaning is stored in the plant.

Turns out, I like plants. This probably shouldn’t be surprising, but hey, here we are. I’m happy that Leroy has made me want to start a garden of my own, and I will try to share my garden’s progress.

Happy planting!

Note for after I wrote all this: Leroy was never struggling! He just grew out-of-sight. He’s been okay, working on himself and hoping for the better. And the second sprout’s name is still Leroy.
